In the late twelfth century, the Arabs
brought to Spain the white earthenware, ancient pottery common deck with
white clay and painted tin. Mayorca of the region, Spain, moved to Italy
and then spread throughout Europe.
Probably between 1550 and 1560 was brought to America by the Dominicans
of Talavera de la Reina, who founded the first locerķas in the city of
Puebla and who is also the name of Talavera de Puebla.
In the seventeenth century was a proliferation of factories making
porcelain unprecedented boom thanks to a regulation of the profession of
locero. This period was marked by great creativity in the designs of
Spanish-Moorish influence of geometric shapes and lancerķas in dark blue
on white.
At the time of the Puebla loceros also developed a highly original
Chinese-style, imitation of the exquisite pieces of Chinese who came to
Mexico via the Manila Galleon, achieving a very original style by the
vigor and spontaneity with which the models were interpreted eastern .
In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, the Talavera
Poblana suffer a major change to replace the blue decorated in rich
colors of the Italian influence
Through the centuries, Talavera Poblana is enriched by multiple
influences. Today, the pieces of Talavera recreate the styles and
designs of ancient Talavera, poblana and Spanish, as well as grounds and
indigenous art nouveau; allegory of extraordinary shapes and colors,
fruit of the imagination of potters poblanos.
Due to the craft of design and materials needed to manufacture them only
five places in the city of Puebla is dedicated to the nomination of
origin.
