Important Note: At
present, the Church celebrates the Virgin of
the Rosary on October 7 and this feast was
instituted by Saint Pius V, and in 1716
Clement XI extended this feast to the whole
Church. So if you have the opportunity to
travel to the State of Puebla, be sure to
visit the Temple of Santo Domingo, where
they can find inside this beautiful Chapel
of the Rosary, located on the street May 5
and 4 Poniente.
Admire the interior and vibrant polychrome
of the Rosary Chapel, highlighted by gold
leaf that was decorated in its entirety, one
of the greatest achievements of religious
art from late seventeenth century.
One of the most splendid examples of Baroque
Novohispanic
Situated within the Temple of Santo Domingo,
the Capilla del Rosario, the ideal of pure
Mexican Baroque style, was the first chapel
dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary to be
built in Mexico as a sign of great devotion
to the Dominican Rosary profess.
The Chapel of the Rosary is one of the works
of religious art-the most beautiful baroque
country and regarded by many as the "eighth
wonder of the modern world.
This site dates from the second half of the
seventeenth century and is truly opulent by
the profusion of angels and cherubs
indigenous faction and gold framing the
image of the Virgin of the Rosary, also
richly dressed.
The chapel is decorated with plasterwork
over golden, exquisite and meticulous work
in which there is a great skill of the
craftsmen poblanos. All the ornaments are
made from flour with egg white and water,
covered with sheets of 24 carat gold.
It is a chapel full of symbolism, where each
element represents something, and is also
one of the most impressive jewel of Baroque
art Novohispanic.
The interior of the Chapel meets these
postulates iconographic as it was divided
into three major clusters: the walls are
represented in the mysteries of the Rosary
and the characters associated with the
Virgin and Christ. In the roofs are the
theological issues which have their seat,
such as Trinidad, the virtues, the gifts of
the Holy Spirit. In the cypress or
tabernacle is the venerated Virgen del
Rosario.
